The celebration of the Chinese New Year in The Hague on February 9 was a great success, both in the City Hall and in Chinatown. Due to the strong wind, the fireworks could not go on, but the parades of lions and dragons through the city attracted a large audience. The national celebration in the town hall was attended by many dignitaries from home and abroad. The festival was opened by Mayor Krikke of The Hague, the Chinese ambassador and former minister Laurens-Jan Brinkhorst. What followed was a dazzling show by a world famous Kungfu, song and dance group from Henan province in China. After the break, the show was continued by Dutch-Chinese artists. As in previous years, the Chinese cultural market attracted a large audience, especially the tables with Chinese calligraphy and paper cutting. The Year of the Pig lasts until January 25, 2020. Then the Year of the Rat begins with another festival.

Tomorrow, February 9, The Hague will celebrate the start of the Chinese year of the Pig. At 10:00 the City Hall will be ready for welcoming the VIP representatives from governments and business and presenting a splendid show by Chinese and Dutch artists.
Chinatown will be full of colour and noise, when troupes of chinese lions and drakes parade through the streets.

The festival will be officially opened by the Mayor The Hague Ms Pauline Krikke, former Minister of Economic Affairs Mr Laurens Jan Brinkhorst and Charges d’affaires of P.R. China Mr Chen Ribiao.
The festival is free for public. So join us in the city centre of The Hague to celebrate Chinese New Year.

The Chinese New Year’s Festival in The Hague will be concluded with a Gala Dinner in the city hall on Sunday, February 10. During this dinner, a famous artist group from Henan province will present their dance and singing acts; the same group as during the national Saturday afternoon celebration.

It promisses to be an exclusive evening, a culinary and cultural pleasure for the invitees of the sponsors.

Once again this year a famous group of artists from China will be present at the Chinese New Year Festival in The Hague. This time it is a group from Henan province, the HENAN ART TROUPE. They will give a varied performance with music and dance, acrobatics and martial art and Chinese opera as well. It promises to be a grand Chinese spectacle again.

Terwijl 2019 nog maar net is begonnen, is men al weer druk in de weer met de voorbereiding van het Chinese Nieuwjaar. Op 5 februari 2019 komt er een einde aan het Jaar van de Hond en begint Het Jaar van het Varken. Dat wordt in den Haag gevierd op zaterdag 9 februari.

De nieuwe voorzitter van de “Organisatie Landelijke Chinees Nieuwjaar 2019”, de heer Yun Piao Lin, is samen met zijn team bezig met de voorbereiding van een uitgebreid programma. Naast het gebruikelijke vuurwerk op het Spuiplein, de leeuwen- en drakentochten door Chinatown en de feestelijkheden in het Atrium van het stadhuis, wordt nu gedacht aan een optocht naar het Plein, live-optredens bij de ingang van de Tweede Kamer en misschien ook nog korte optredens op andere locaties, zoals in Scheveningen en het Statenkwartier. Een zeer voorlopig overzicht van de festiviteiten kan worden gevonden onder Programma.

Samen met zijn team heeft de heer Yun Piao Lin vorig jaar een bezoek gebracht aan de gemeente Den Haag om kennis te maken met Richard de Mos, wethouder Economie, Sport, Buitenruimte (ESB), tevens loco-burgemeester van Den Haag en Henk Kool, voorzitter van de ”Economic Board The Hague” en voorzitter van de Vereniging Nederland China (VNC).

Bij deze gelegenheid benadrukte Richard de Mos het belang van goede betrekkingen met China en de Chinese gemeenschap in Nederland. “Ik hoop dat de landelijke viering van het Chinees Nieuwjaar in Den Haag weer een groot succes wordt. De gemeente Den Haag zal zich daarvoor inzetten in samenwerking met Chinatown Den Haag en de Chinese gemeenschap in Nederland” aldus Richard de Mos.

Henk Kool benadrukte dat het vestigen van buitenlandse bedrijven in Den Haag van levensbelang is voor de economische ontwikkeling van Den Haag. “Het is heel boeiend om nu zowel op sociaal-cultureel gebied vanuit VNC als op economisch gebied vanuit het bedrijfsleven actief te zijn in en met China. De viering van het Chinees Nieuwjaar in den Haag is een uitstekende gelegenheid om mensen uit deze twee werelden met elkaar in contact te brengen”.

While the Year of the Dog is far from over, the preparations have already begun for the celebration of the coming Chinese New Year. On 5 February 2019 the Year of the Pig starts and that will be celebrated in The Hague on 9 February 2019. On this website you will find soon all the information about the festivities in The Hague. Mayor Pauline Krikke of the Hague will be present tomorrow at the ceremonial opening of the national celebration of Chinese New Year in the city hall of the Hague, together with Minister Bruno Bruins, Charges d’affaires Chen Ribiao of P.R. China, Deputy mayor Karsten Klein, Chairman Chi Tsjeng Pin of the National Federation of Chinese Organizations Netherlands and Chairman Henk Kool of the Association Netherlands – China.
This ceremonial opening with four colourful Chinese lions starts at 11:15 a.m. After the opening and the festive speeches, a festival of music and dance will start on the big stage in the Atrium in the town hall.
Besides the many guests from home and abroad who have promised to attend this national celebration, everyone is welcome to enjoy this show. Welcome!
